Employers, this one is for you.

Drugs in the workplace:

Employers, you could be liable for events or incidents where drugs are involved.

CCND’s regular, random canine narcotic searches reduce employer liability in the event of dangerous or illegal activity.

Everyone deserves a safe, drug-free work environment, but the rising prevalence of drugs, narcotics, and contraband can put that in jeopardy. Minimize your liability by taking preventative measures with regular, randomized narcotic checks.

It’s important to end any suspicions about drugs in the workplace because businesses and employers are legally obligated to ensure drug free environments for their employees. By being proactive with random, non-disruptive CCND drug searches, you will minimize your legal liabilities in case of drug-induced accidents in the workplace.

According to a review of workplace substance use by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction:

Substance use affecting the workplace is a growing concern among a variety of groups, including employers, employees, industry associations, unions, health professionals and insurance companies. The negative consequences of such use can be serious and wide-ranging. Of primary concern is the potential negative impact on the health and safety of the affected employee and co-workers, and, for certain industries, additional risks to the public (Spicer, Miller, & Smith, 2003; Zwerling, Ryan, & Orav, 1990).

Beyond these concerns, substance use can affect the workplace in other ways, contributing to increased costs, absenteeism, turnover, disciplinary actions and use of organizational resources, as well as lower productivity and workplace morale (Ames, Grube, & Moore, 1997; Frone, 2004; Pidd, Kostadinov, & Roche, 2015; Zwerling, Ryan, & Orav, 1990). More recently, concerns surrounding the regulation and legalization of cannabis in Canada have also prompted employers and other stakeholders to consider how best to address substance use in their workplace policies and practices.
